Warm, comforting, and full of savory flavor, this homemade stuffing is the perfect addition to your holiday table! Made with hearty bread, aromatic herbs, and simple, wholesome ingredients, this classic side dish gets an extra boost of flavor from our Sausage Mix and S.O.S. (Save Our Supper) Seasoning. Whether served alongside Thanksgiving turkey or your favorite Sunday roast, every bite is packed with delicious, homestyle goodness that will have everyone coming back for seconds!

Ingredients

  • ½ c. butter
  • ½ c. onion, chopped
  • ½ c. celery, chopped
  • ½ c. mushrooms, chopped
  • About 6 cups (or 1 bag) dried plain bread cubes
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. Rosebud's Sausage Mix
  • 2 tsp. Rosebud's S.O.S
  • ¾ c. - 1 c. chicken or vegetable stock

Optional:

  • 1 lb. ground meat (plain ground pork, beef, chicken, turkey or venison)
  • 2 tsp. Rosebud’s Sausage Mix (for the ground meat)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat. Sautee the onion, celery, and mushrooms in butter until onion is translucent and the edges of the vegetables are starting to brown. Remove from heat.
  3. If adding ground meat to the recipe, mix in the sausage mix seasoning into the raw meat. Brown the seasoned meat in a medium skillet. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. When cool enough to handle, mix the buttered vegetables and cooked sausage (if using) with the bread cubes in a bowl.
  5. In a seperate bowl, beat an egg with a fork, then add the 1 Tbsp Sausage Mix, 2 tsp S.O.S, and 3/4 cup of the stock together. Once fully combined, drizzle liquid mixture over bread cube mixture while stirring, so that bread cubes are moistened but not soggy. Add the remaining chicken stock a little at a time if needed.
  6. Transfer dressing mixture into a buttered baking dish (you can use the skillet if it is oven safe and large enough).
  7. Cover dish and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove cover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until top is golden brown and no moisture remains at the bottom of the pan. Serve while warm!
